As far as fake books go, this one is as nice as any other that you will find. I did have the thought that the promo songs in the description tended to highlight all of the songs that were familiar to me when most of the songs in the book were ones I'd never heard of before. However, although I've just been a frequent bluegrass listener over the years and am now voraciously learning every song I hear since learning guitar so I think the book was more than worth the money. I've used this brand of fake book in the past for piano and found the quality to be very good.
This is a wonderful collection of Bluegrass vocal and instrumental standards. Lyrics, chords and basic melody lines are included in very concise ( mostly) one page sheets. Also, spiral bound so you can actually turn the pages! What's not too like?!
This is a great addition to the Bluegrass Fakebook -- between the two books there is some crossover in the tunes that are included but not very much so between the two books you end up with a nice large library of bluegrass songs. This book is laid out just like all the other Hal Leonard "Real Books," using the same "handwritten" music font and printed so that there are no page turns in the middle of songs. And it comes comb-bound so you can start using it right away and have it lay flat on your music stand.
This book has about 75% of the bluegrass songs I need. Simply written and easy to read. I would highly recommend this fake book if you are into bluegrass, especially if you are a beginner and trying to learn common songs for jams.
It's a fine book. I'm giving it three stars not because it's really lacking anything, but because this just isn't the way bluegrass is meant to be shared. Try learning the spirit of these old bluegrass songs through sheet music alone... and you'll be left playing a string of lifeless notes.Good book to help you jump into a jam session if you don't know the particular song and want to get your bearings... but don't think you can learn bluegrass from it.
I've played bluegrass music professionally. The keys in this fake book are useless. I'm returning it. Lots of the music has 5 sharps. FIVE SHARPS!!! or the key is B-flat. Horrors. The songs are good, if you only want the lyrics. I can transpose on the fly, but my students can't. Sigh. It looked so promising.
This book has plenty of tunes. It’s does not, however, have many of the fiddle tunes I’d consider standard. See if you can find a table of contents to view before purchasing this Volume
